To explore the market for pure mustard oil and honey, the Odisha Khadi and Village Industries Board has set up a mustard oil ghani plant on the premises of Udyogpuri in Gandamunda here on Tuesday. The unit will help farmers resorting to distress sale.
"There is a demand for pure kachi ghani mustard oil in the market. But the products available are mostly adulterated. This ghani plant was lying defunct after the super cyclone in 1999, which we revived," said president of Odisha Khadi and Village Industries Board (OKVIB) Tejeswar Parida.
Apart from the oil ghani plant foundation stone for a honey processing plant was also laid. The plant has a capacity of 100 litres honey a day replacing manual processing system. "The aim is to utilise huge quantity of raw honey collected in tribal districts and make available quality product in the market," Parida said. OKVI will procure the raw products from different cooperative societies.
