The state government Thursday said it has scrapped allotment of a whooping 600 acres given to four industrial houses to set up units in Orissa. Industries minister Debi Prasad Mishra informed this to the house in his written reply.

Mishra said the Orissa Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Idco) has cancelled allotment of 249.41 acres to Lanco Solar Pvt Ltd at Ramdaspur in Cuttack, 46 acres to SKOL Breweries Ltd at Ramdaspur in Cuttack, 11.83 acres to Dharani Sugar Ltd at Dhamnagar in Bhadrak and nearly 69.81 acres to Seashore Agricultural Promotion Company at Papadahandi in Nabaranagpur.

“The cost of the retrieved land is around `7.5 crore,” Mishra said. He made it clear that the land surrendered by these companies has been brought under the land bank created for industrial use. Mishra also said that the land cancelled from Dharani Sugar has been proposed to be utilised for a textile and food park. Notably, these four industries are among 10 companies that have been issued show cause notices by the state government for failing to utilise land within the stipulated time frame.

In another reply, the industries minister said of the 4098 acres allotted in favour of 11 industries, only Tata Steel is developing a multi product special economic zone over 1235.38 acres near Gopalpur in Ganjam. Rungta Mines, Brady & Morris, Deomines & Mineral (Pvt) Ltd, Pee EII Odisha Ltd, TISCO and, Aditya Aluminium Ltd are among the firms which have not utilised land allocated to them in different districts for setting up of industries. Some of these companies have even moved court against the government’s show-cause.

The minister also informed the house that as many as eight industries have shut down their plants in the state due to various reasons. The statement of the minister has raised concern at a time when the state government has been organising business conclaves to attract big ticket investments to Orissa.
